About me
Charles Fries took the role as Deputy Secretary General for Peace, Security, and Defence at the European External Action Service (EEAS) from May 2020. His career in diplomacy spans over three decades, with notable roles as French Ambassador to Turkey, Morocco, and the Czech Republic.
He has held senior advisory positions, including Diplomatic Advisor to Prime Minister François Fillon, Secretary General for European Affairs, and Europe Advisor to President Jacques Chirac. Earlier in his career, he served as Press Advisor in London and undertook several roles focused on European and external relations within the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Fries is a graduate of the École nationale d’administration and holds advanced degrees in public law and political science from the Université Panthéon-Sorbonne and Sciences Po Paris.
